  It's difficult for me to give Kaiser much more than 3 stars, however, they have vastly improved over the recent years. Just remember that you are an active participant in your health plan, dont let them step on you.

  I love Kaiser Permanente and I have had mostly very good experiences with KP Richmond. BUT...what is the deal with their so-called Urgent Care and why is the information on their web site so confusing??? Most of my experience there has been 4 or 5 stars, but today's was a zero. Why can't the facility web site give the hours of Urgent Care, pharmacy, etc., instead of saying "open 24 hours"? I was not the only one who showed up early this morning thinking things would be open, only to discover we had to come back later. Even the signs in the Richmond facility for Urgent Care were wrong. They said it opened at 8:30 but in fact they open at 9, as I discovered when I made my second trip of the morning to try and get care. "Yeah, we've been meaning to fix that," a staffer said breezily. How hard is it to stick a piece of paper with the right time on the sign? Why would you treat patients this way, and act like it's no big deal? Another thing that is not explained on the web or in the Urgent Care waiting room is that, surprise, you can't drop in (isn't that what Urgent Care means??)--you have to have an appointment. Which means you have to call, sit through endless chains of "press 1 if you have had eye surgery, press 2 if you want to see an obstetrician" and then you can only get an appointment for a phone call with a doctor several hours later, who may or may not book you into Urgent Care. So today I made two trips to Urgent Care for nothing. Why call it Urgent Care, for heaven's sake, when it's not an urgent-care service? And why isn't this explained on the web site, instead of telling people once they've arrived that they should have called in instead? My problem is a sprained or broken foot. Yes, I could have hobbled over to the ER, but my problem is not an emergency and I didn't want to pay hundreds of extra dollars to wait around all day while people with more serious medical issues were (rightly) taken ahead of me. I thought the point of Urgent Care was to keep people like me out of the ER. Kaiser Richmond, why can't you give your members the information we need, instead of treating us like nuisances because we haven't telepathically figured out your system? My experience today was infuriating, and I hate feeling that way about Kaiser.
